Madhubani Art Workshop By Sripadma Chintalapudi

Madhubani Art Workshop

Madhubani Art Workshop: Madhubani art or the  Mithila painting is a style of Indian painting, practised in the Mithila region. The painting is done with a variety of tools, including fingers, twigs, brushes, nib pens, and matchsticks using natural dyes and pigments. To experience this ancient practising art form, Rajasthan Studio curated a Madhubani Art Workshop and invited Sripadma Chintalapudi. She is an engineer by profession. She practices traditional and also contemporary art forms like kalamkari, Madhubani, leather puppetry, Gond, Warli and doodling, zentangle, mandala, origami, decoupage, mixed media etc.

The Madhubani Art Workshop Began

Sripadma began the session by narrating the Madhubani tale. She explained the history of the art, about the Mithila village. Sripadma mentioned what each motif signified adding so much meaning to the painting, this left all the 30 attendees mesmerized. She further explained all the five styles of painting briefly to all the attendees. She explained about the Kachini, Bharni, Godana,  Kober and Tantric.

Sharing such diminutive information about the art, Sripadma began to demonstrate the basic borders using geometric shapes. Moving forward she showed all the attendees to draw a fish with all the details that the Madhubani Painting would need. The most important rule is to double line the motif to add definition, said Sripadma. Then, she began to demonstrate to colour the painting. Using bright organic colours Sripadma completed the painting adding all the details and making it more definite.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

At the end of the experience, all the circle members managed to complete their paintings. They were excited to showcase their paintings over the camera. Sripadma looked at all the attendees’ paintings. Sripadma also suggested some hacks to beautify the painting style. It was a very informative experience for all.

All the attendees were from different parts of the country and belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rooftop as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
