Macrame Art Workshop With Preethi Muthu

Macarame Jewellery

Macrame is an old art form that involves the knotting technique in contrast to weaving or knitting. This art form finds its origins in the Babylonian regions and became popular in different parts of the world over time. The sailors, when not busy during their time on the seas, used to create Macrame art and bartered it when they would land on foreign lands, thus introducing it to China and other countries. From the Victorian era, Macrame became popular but its charm gradually began fading. It was in the ‘70s American culture that Macrame regained its status and slowly became a household name.

Nowadays, Macrame is famous among artists as they are looking to extend its usage.

To make you aware of the art of creating self-made jewellery from Macrame art, Rooftop curated a special workshop and invited expert artist Preethi Muthu to facilitate the session.
