Art has always been a very integral part of human civilization, and with the evolution of humans, evolved art. Over the years, we got to see a lot of changes in the depiction of art forms ranging from cave paintings to abstract art. Human society developed and formed small establishments, each of them having some unique art forms that used to depict the lifestyle of that particular community, which came to be known as folk arts. Aipan, too, is a customary folk art form that originated in Uttarakhand and is drawn on the brick red floors of houses. It is associated with bringing good luck and fortune. 

To give the Circle family this delightful experience and to enlighten them about this traditional art form, Rooftop organized a special and exceptional session and invited expert artist Vaishnavi Verma to conduct and facilitate the workshop.

 About The Artist

Vaishnavi is a young, zestful, and highly spirited college student hailing from Prayagraj. She was always interested and curious about Indian folk arts and it was a few years back that she came across the Aipan art form and fell in love with it. She kept researching and at the same time practising the art form until she mastered it. Now, she seeks to help other people understand and master the art form. 

And The Workshop Began

The workshop began with a brief introduction of Vaishnavi Verma  Here, the attendees got to know the artist in a better way. Vaishnavi, too, greeted and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the attendees. 

Further, she described the basic points to be taken care of when making an art piece. She also pointed out the different types of papers available in the market and how to differentiate between them. She also gave some insight into the types of colours and paints used in this art form like acrylic paints and so on. The session was quite engaging and interactive with Vaishnavi making the attendees feel comfortable and relaxed. Vaishnavi explained each and every step involved in a very engaging and intriguing manner that made the attendees even more interested. Towards the end, a sense of relief and satisfaction could be seen on the faces of the participants.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

As we progressed towards the end of our session, each one of the attendees was able to create their own piece of art and felt glad about the same. Throughout the session, Vaishnavi made sure to check each of their works and to suggest some sort of correction, if needed. The session proved to be quite promising and a great experience for the participants.

The attendees were delighted and content. They were glad about the opportunity of connecting with each other as well as with Vaishnavi and did express their gratitude towards her and the hosts of the session.

The participants were not just from different parts of India, but also from different countries like France and Nigeria. However, this didn’t pose a barrier as they were united by their love for the arts. Rooftop, as always, was successful in connecting artists and creating memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.
