Kalighat Workshop With Aayushi Chatterjee

Kalighat painting

Kalighat Painting is well known for its bright colours and bold outlines. The painting evolved in 19th century Kolkata. The art form always depicted Hindu gods, mythological characters, themes, and characters from everyday life. Kalighat paintings were an effort by a group of artists who belonged to the same family.

To spread awareness about this distinct art form, The Circle Community brought together a Kalighat Workshop with Aayushi Chatterjee.

About The Artist

Aayushi Chatterjee showcases her artwork on her Instagram account @kala_kritya and has been fond of painting, sketching, and crafting since her childhood. She now teaches the art of Kalighat painting which is her passion.

The Workshop Began

The workshop began with an introduction to Aayushi and her journey into the artistic world. She then started sketching a female goddess and drew a circular plate of sweets. She painted the goddess’ saree in a rose-red shade, followed by shading the skin and hair. The rest of the attire was painted yellow. Chatterjee added a white bindi to the goddess’ forehead and showed her work to the participants. Further, she also gave pieces of advice and recommendations to make the painting more creative and appealing.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

The participants showcased their recreated paintings to Aayushi, who was delighted to see all of them. The host thanked Aayushi for teaching the art of Kalighat Painting and sharing her knowledge about the beautiful art form.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Circle Community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
