Jamini Roy is a renowned Indian painter. He gave up commissioned portrait painting and discovered his own style of painting based on Bengali folk traditions. Today his style of painting is admired and practiced by many artists. To give our Circle Members the experience to learn and enlighten themselves about this traditional art form, Rajasthan Studio curated a special workshop and invited Nitisha Trivedi.

Nitisha Trivedi is the face behind @articulations_ . She is currently pursuing architecture and she loves to practice different folk arts of India. She started her art journey when she learned to hold a pencil, and through all these years practiced her profession with creative experimentations in different mediums. 

This lockdown gave her an opportunity to explore her interest in tribal and folk arts of India, she started with Gond art, and eventually learned 8-9 art different folk arts of India. Beyond folk arts, She also creates Mandala’s, calligraphy, watercolor and digital illustrations.

Jamini Roy Painting Workshop Began

The workshop began with Nitisha given all our attendees a brief about what is Jamini Roy painting and its origin. She then began sketching the art form & showed the attendees the reference picture is was using to make the panting. She elaborated the sketching to the attendees told them about how she took the curves and how they could get the sketch done beautifully. Also, she then had a look at everyones rough sketch so that she could tell them where they could improve it. Giving everyone one some tips she then did a bit detailing to her sketches  and then started with the painting.

She used poster colors to painting her figures and used vibrant colours for the painting as it was the Jamini Roy’s main features of his painting. She even told that using completely contrasting colours for the painting was the feature of Jamini Roy. Later, she spoke about the various techniques Jamini Roy used for his painting. She showed them how they should do the detailing in their painting.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

Towards the end of the workshop Nitisha had a look at paintings of all the attendees giving them some tips and hacks to make their painting look more soothing and beautiful. She was very happy with all the attendees’ work. The attendees were from different parts of the country. Also, they belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rajasthan studio as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
