A combination of ink with watercolour produces a stunning art that can be free-hand yet exemplary. Painting on a finely drawn sketch emphasises the value of the art. Loose strokes of paint add value to a seamless painting. To learn more about this fascinating style, The Circle Community conducted a workshop with Dr Amaey Parekh.
About The Artist
Dr Amaey is a dentist by profession but an artist and healer by passion. He is currently pursuing a degree in counselling psychology and a post-graduate diploma in art therapy. He is a self-taught artist since childhood and has experimented in various mediums, watercolour being his favourite. He has been working on a series of watercolour doors. For him, art is therapeutic and thus he started a thinking palette, a combination of art workshops, therapy and counselling.
The Workshop Began
Amaey initiated the workshop by introducing the basic idea behind the ink and watercolour art. “We allow the artwork to create free movement through ink and later add watercolour”, he said while explaining the art form to the attendees. He decided to work on a fresh reference photo instead of recreating his previous artwork. He instructed that the image should be in a 3:4 ratio so that it is ideal to sketch.
He taped down the paper to avoid any crumble and drew a free-hand illustration of a doorway. He enlightened how this art doesn’t have to be precise but just resembles the original photo in a way. After drawing the sketch with an ink pen, he used the wet on dry technique and started working with watercolour. He loosely applied colours starting off with yellow and green shades to the flower pots, painted the doors brown and gave it a gradient effect. He painted the walls a mixture of brown, red and orange shade to give it a natural look. For the finishing touches, he focused on giving prominent features highlighted with the use of a white pen.
Towards The End Of The Workshop
Amaey made sure to keep the session interactive and made sure that all the attendees followed through step by step. This form of art is relaxing and he wanted everyone to enjoy co-creating it.
The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. The Circle Community, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
