When it comes to gifting a book lover, one can never go wrong with a handmade bookmark. With classy painting styles and minimalist designs, it is both creative and useful to make bookmarks. With the help of a unique medium like gouache, a glaring look can be inspired in making this art. To dive into making such delightful bookmarks, Rooftop conducted a Gouache Bookmark workshop with Arpita Gain.
About The Artist
Arpita is a working professional who loves art. She is a mix media artist who loves watercolour, acrylic, gouache, and oil mediums. She makes different forms of paintings like landscape, portrait, abstract, mandala, etc. She believes that by being a part of workshops as such, she can teach and learn more at the same time.
The Workshop Began
At first, Arpita wanted to conduct a warm-up session. So she chose a simple design with gouache. This medium is opaque in nature, unlike watercolours. Before beginning with the design, she taped the boundaries of the bookmark cutout. She drew a leaf pattern with natural shades and painted pretty roses around it.
The bookmark chosen o recreate was a much more dynamic version of the same concept. A garden of roses, with teal blue sky and airy clouds.
She drew a dark green layer on the bottom half and filled it with petit roses of different sizes and shapes. She also made small leaves covering the roses with fine liner brushes.
Towards The End Of The Workshop
Arpita shared simple techniques and designs that go well while creating minimalistic bookmarks. She discussed with the attendees about the gouache paints and their various shades. Everyone co-created and was engrossed in the process of painting.
The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rooftop, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
