Gond Painting Workshop By Tajinder Kohli

Gond Art Painting

Gond Art is a form of painting from folk and tribal art. Gond comes from the Dravidian expression, Kond which means ‘the green mountain’. Popularly known as the “online art” Gond art is a reflection of man’s close connection with his natural surroundings. Gond paintings are a form of painting from folk and tribal art that is practiced by one of the largest tribes in India. To give our Circle Members the experience to learn and enlighten themselves about this traditional art form, Rajasthan Studio curated a special workshop and invited Tajinder Kohli.

Three years back Tajinder Kohli started her art journey. She chose her passion as a profession and started her brand @_khalaq_ which simply means creativity explaining what one wants to do, that is to create. Tajinder creates by trying different mixing styles and coming up with her own creations. She wants to diffuse positivity and can motivate everyone around her. Her mantra in life is “follow what your heart says, just keep creating and living your life to the fullest.”

The Gond Art Workshop Began

In this workshop, Tajinder Kohli will teaches the basics of Gond painting using lines and dots to detail the motifs. She began with the introduction of herself sharing about how her journey started three years and her linking for different art forms. While Gond paintings are considered to be predominantly from Madhya Pradesh, it is also quite common in Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.

She started with a peacock design and demonstrated how to draw an outline of the peacock, fish, and deer. She explained the drawing in parts making it easy to replicate. Moving forward, Tajinder began to paint the base layer of the peacock using acrylic colours. She created some simple drawings and nature figures.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

Most of the attendees were successful in making their Gond-style peacocks. The attendees were very excited to showcase their work. She also taught dotting techniques in a simple and easiest way. The overall experience was very delightful and everyone was elated by the experience.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. Also, they belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rajasthan Studio as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
