Rooftop – Where India Inspires Creativity

Faux Calligraphy Workshop With Sakshi Agarwal

Faux Calligraphy Workshop

Faux Calligraphy Workshop: Calligraphy is an art that uses markers with a tapered, super-flexible tip. This tip is responsive to pressure, which makes thick downstrokes and thin upstrokes. To experience these varied strokes and techniques, Rooftop curated a Faux Calligraphy Workshop and invited Sakshi Agarwal. She is a self-taught calligraphy and lettering artist.  Art is a meditative and healing process, it is the best relaxing go-to technique for her. She loves to express herself through her art.

The Faux Calligraphy Workshop Began

Sakshi began the experience by briefing about the brush pens and the alternatives that can be used. She also mentioned a few of her personal favourites that would be best for beginners. She explained in detail about the Grid paper and what each line symbolizes and how to use it. All the 20 attendees carefully listened and made notes.

Sakshi explained in detail the different types of calligraphy and how to distinguish each type. She started to demonstrate the basic 8 strokes and mentioned the most important rule is to ‘Start from the baseline. After explaining the strokes, Sakshi started to calligraph the cursive lowercase alphabets. Very patiently she explained each alphabet and the combination of strokes to be used.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

The participants practised the strokes along with Sakshi. Once everyone had learned the basic strokes, Sakshi asked everyone to write the word ‘Happy’ in the new calligraphy style they learned. The enthusiastic attendees calligraphed the word ‘Happy’ and showed Sakshi over the camera. Sakshi praised the attendees’ work and shared some very insightful tips to improve their skill set at calligraphy. Sakshi mentioned that practice is key to perfection. It was a very enlightening and knowledgeable session for all.

All the attendees were from different parts of the country and belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform.

Rooftop as always was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.\

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
