Dot Art Workshop: Dot Art makes use of dotting to create paintings. The technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of colour are applied in patterns to form an image is called Pointillism. To experience this intricate painting style using dots, Rooftop curated a Dot Art Workshop and invited Disha Thakur, who is a fevicryl certified professional. She masters dot-art, mandalas and zentangles. Disha loves to explore, learn as well as teach different art forms. She is an art enthusiast who is always ready to enhance her knowledge of art.
The Dot Art Workshop Began
Disha began the experience by briefing about all the materials. She explained to the attendees about the embossing tools, the dotting tools and other materials easily available at home like toothpicks, pencils, brushes etc. that can be used for dot art. All the 25 attendees carefully observed and made notes of the tools and their specifications. Disha mentioned how different sized dots varying in colour and dimension can make a huge difference to the painting.
Disha demonstrated to make a butterfly using Dot Art. She drew the outline of the butterfly on a black sheet using a pencil. Once all the attendees were ready with their butterfly outlines, Disha began to show the dotting techniques. “The most important tip is to submerge the tool in the paint and take a good amount of paint on the tool”, said Disha. Moving forward she showed the attendees the dotting technique using dots to make the borders. After that, she moved to the double dotting technique overlapping two dots with different colours. Lastly, Disha demonstrated the swish technique using a dot and adding a curve to it in a suitable direction. All the attendees worked alongside Disha on their unique butterfly dot art pieces using these techniques.
Towards The End Of The Workshop
At the end of the experience, all the attendees had managed to complete their dot art paintings within the time crunch. They had used their own unique colour combinations, while Disha was surprised to see the creativity. The attendees were excited to showcase their paintings over the camera. Disha looked at all the attendees’ paintings and was very happy to see the bright colourful butterflies. Disha shared some useful tips and motivated all the attendees to keep learning and exploring. The overall experience was fun for all.
All the attendees were from different parts of the country and belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform.
