Diwali Toran Workshop With Roopsi Davra

Diwali Toran Workshop

Toran making is a craft that is used to make various types of torans. It involves the use of artificial flowers, beads, OHP sheets, threads, etc. to form a toran. To experience this craft with Diwali around the corner, Rooftop curated a Diwali Toran Workshop and invited Roopsi Davra, a self-taught artist, who loves to create and explore each day. She organizes various events from birthday parties to baby showers. Roopsi believes that making mistakes and experimenting is the way to learn and the key to success.

The Diwali Toran Workshop Began

Roopsi began the experience by explaining all the materials and their uses to make a toran, while all the 20 attendees paid attention and made notes. She started to demonstrate how to outline the Kalash with 3D  outliners on an OHP sheet using a printout as a guideline. Moving forward, Roopsi began to fill in the outlined parts with glass colours. Some of the attendees followed along these lines and made their own Kalash on the OHP sheet.

While filling in the colours, Roopsi shared very useful techniques for colour mixing. She also mentioned the most important fact is to keep the bubbles away. Meanwhile, she also shared some hacks to rectify mistakes while painting.  Once the painting was completed Roopsi outlined the Kalash adding definition to it. She had prepared three pieces of the Kalash which she used to demonstrate how to assemble the toran. Roopsi stuck the Kalash pieces on a ribbon and embellished it with flowers and beads.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

At the end of the workshop, most of the attendees had managed to complete one single Kalash which they showed Roopsi over the camera. She loved to see everyone’s work with very varied bright and festive colour combinations. Roopsi showered praises on all their work. It was a very fun and innovative experience that will help everyone around the festivities.

All the attendees were from different parts of the country and belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform.
