Imagine this – You are relaxing after a long day, with your feet up on the pouffe. Supper is ready and looks delicious. There is soft music in the background. What’s missing in this room? Just the right amount of light to set the ambience right, a candle. So how about a DIY candle? The process of making a candle is as calming as lighting one in a beautifully done room. It enhances your mood and adds to the décor of the place.
In earlier times, candles were made from rushlights or papyrus soaked in animal fat. Candles are now used for decorative and therapeutic purposes. Natural wax is commonly made from materials such as beeswax, soy, and palm.
To teach the process of candle-making to art enthusiasts, The Rooftop Community put together a Candle Making Workshop with expert artist Anisha Singh.
About the Artist
Anisha Singh goes by the name of @sterlingarts0124 on her Instagram page. She belongs from the Pink City of India, Jaipur, and takes customized orders for scented candles, handcrafted resin products and gift hampers. Singh ships her orders all across India.
The Workshop began
The workshop kickstarted with a brief introduction of Anisha and her foray into the world of art. Anisha welcomed the attendees dearly and thanked them for being a part of the workshop. She then introduced the art of candle making and gave a background about the art form.
Beginning the process of creating the candles, Anisha melted the soy wax and mentioned the appropriate temperature of the wax which is 165 to 170 degrees Fahrenheit, after which one can add colour and fragrance to them. She added mica colour and fragrance oil in the candle mixture pouring them into the candle jar. Singh talked about the collection of her candles and showed the colourful candles.
Towards the end of the workshop
As the workshop progressed, the attendees got increasingly engrossed in co-creating with Anisha. In the end, they showcased their own handmade candles to Anisha, who appreciated their effort and creativity.
The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rooftop, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.
