A Start-up Story of Silicone Storage Bags with Phad Painting

Presented by DAV Public School, Gurugram, Delhi as a part of Phad Se Padh initiative

Teacher’s Experience

Art has the power to connect the seemingly unconnected. The subject of Business Studies was chosen to be integrated with Phad, a folk art style from Rajasthan. Both teachers and students were enthusiastic about working on the project as it was an opportunity to work in collaboration with different departments.

Class XII students were to formulate a start-up plan in the form of a story. The students came up with an idea to replace plastic bags with eco-friendly platinum silicone storage bags. It promoted the Sustainable Development Goals that the current and the upcoming generation ought to be aware of.

The mentors and students researched together and gained interdisciplinary application-based learning through this project. It fostered ideas amongst students to start their own ventures and gave exposed mentors to novel ways of creating art-integrated learning prospects for their students.

It was truly an incredible and memorable experience.

Student’s Experience

We got an excellent opportunity to take up Project Phad Se Padh under the guidance of our Commerce and Art departments. We learned about Phad folk paintings and the associated Bhopa musicians.

We plunged into the world of entrepreneurship, gaining knowledge about the 4 Ps of marketing: product, price, place, and promotion. We were asked to prepare business proposals by understanding these aspects, and presenting this in a Phad; thus, opening doors to art exploration and integrated innovation.

Music, dance, and fine arts students created a wholesome show through their vision. We thoroughly enjoyed the journey of learning, collaborating, and showcasing our artistic prowess.

It was indeed an exciting experience for us.
