Basic Kalamkari Workshop with Manisha

Basic Kalamkari

What if a painting could narrate stories through it’s intricate designs and vivid colours? That’s exactly what this exquisite art form does, Kalamkari, refers to the ancient style of hand painting using a tamarind pen “Kalam” and natural dyes. The craftsmanship called as “Kari” was precise and intricate that made this art form stand out amongst others. Born out of the art of story-telling, Kalamkari gained it’s recognition during the Mughal era and is now being adapted in contemporary ways.

To explore this art form in detail, The Rooftop Community organized a Basic Kalamkari Workshop with expert artist Manisha.

The Workshop Began

Manisha greeted all the participants and introduced them about Kalamkari art form, its history and cultural significance. She started explaining the designs and taught everyone the technique in a simple and interesting way. She taught the making of the flowers and leaves and sketched the tree. She started shading leaves using green and blue colours, the bark of the tree in brown colour, and the flowers in pink and blue colours. She shaded the stones under the tree with yellow, blue and light pink.

Towards The End Of The Workshop

Manisha beautifully taught Kalamkari design to all the attendees. The attendees beautifully showed their Kalamkari pieces to her. Manisha also shared some of her previous artworks with the participants. The host thanked Manisha for teaching everyone the Basic Kalamkari artwork.

The attendees were from different parts of the country. They also belonged to different age groups but their love for art brought them together on a single platform. Rooftop, as always, was successful in connecting artists and curating a magical and positive vibe together.

On this note, here’s us signing off until next time!
